THE BOAT
She is a 1987 Bayliner 4550 Pilothouse. This model boat was built from 1984 to 1993. In 1994 it underwent some small changes and became known as the 4788 (2 more feet of length was added, prop pockets eliminated, etc.). The 4788 was built from 1993 to the end of the larger Bayliner motor yacht line when they rebranded it as what many know today as the "Meridian" brand. Largely regarded as a modern day classic, the 45/47 pilothouses are excellent cruising boats. They are often considered the "biggest bang for the buck" in the big-boat category. They have a ton of space for their size, classic lines, and a great layout. Some of her basic specs:
LOA (Length Overall): About 52'
Beam: 14' 11"
Power Train: Twin diesel (Hinos), 220 hp each engine
Fuel tanks: About 475-500 gallons
Freshwater: 200 gallons
Holding: 48 gallons
Auxiliary Power: 12.5KW Westerbeke generator
Dinghy: 2003 11' RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) with a 2003 Mercury 15hp, 4 stroke outboard.
Below is a picture of the layout. There are 3 staterooms and two heads:
Her galley is equipped with a 3 burner stove and built in oven, as well as a new microwave, new refrigerator (full size), and most exciting for us...a trash compactor! Anyone who spends a lot of time aboard or on the water knows how great this feature is with a family!
She is a raised pilothouse design which has a full lower helm that is 4 steps up from the galley and salon. This pilothouse is decidedly our favorite room. It has a very comfortable settee (sofa) along the aft bulkhead of the pilothouse. Full instrumentation is present at the helm including VHF, a 10" Garmin GPS/Chartplotter, Raytheon Radar, and Raytheon autopilot, as well as both the 110V and 12V electrical panels giving enough switches to make you feel like you are driving a spaceship. :)
We've owned boats from 33' to 38' in the past and our 4550 is by far the most spacious and comfortable vessel we have owned to date.
